Pulmonary insufficiency (regurgitation) is retrograde flow from the pulmonary artery into the right ventricle during diastole, most often secondary to pulmonary hypertension/dilation of the annulus, or after tetralogy of Fallot repair. Clinical: often asymptomatic; signs of right-heart failure if significant. Treatment: treat underlying pulmonary hypertension; manage right-heart failure (diuretics); pulmonary valve replacement for significant symptomatic PR (e.g., post-TOF repair with RV dysfunction).
Often asymptomatic; right-heart failure if significant; Graham-Steell murmur; by PH/post-TOF
Pulmonary hypertension/annular dilation causes incomplete diastolic closure and RV volume overload.
Treat pulmonary HTN; manage RVF; pulmonary valve replacement for significant symptomatic PR
Treat PH; monitor RV size/function.
It is recommended to visit the Cardiology department; an appointment can be booked on this platform before the visit.
