Atrial flutter is an organized macroreentrant atrial tachycardia with sawtooth flutter waves (typically 300 bpm) and fixed AV conduction (often 2:1). Clinical: palpitations, dyspnea, similar stroke risk to AF. Treatment: rate control; anticoagulation (same as AF, CHA2DS2-VASc); cardioversion/antiarrhythmics for rhythm control; catheter ablation of cavotricuspid isthmus is curative for typical flutter.
Palpitations; sawtooth flutter waves; regular ventricular rate (often 150); similar stroke risk to AF
Right-atrial macroreentrant circuit (cavotricuspid isthmus) causes organized flutter.
Rate control; anticoagulation; cardioversion/antiarrhythmics; isthmus ablation curative for typical flutter
Anticoagulate; ablation curative; treat underlying causes.
It is recommended to visit the Cardiology/EP department; an appointment can be booked on this platform before the visit.
