Atherosclerosis

心内科

Common symptoms

心肌肥厚、腹痛、气急、血压高

The pathology of disease

Atherosclerosis is lipid-driven inflammatory plaque formation in large and medium arteries, causing coronary artery disease, stroke, peripheral artery disease, and aneurysm. Treatment: primary prevention (control BP/lipids/DM, no smoking, healthy diet/exercise); secondary prevention (antiplatelet, statin, ACEi/beta-blocker after events); revascularization (PCI/CABG/endarterectomy/angioplasty) for symptomatic disease; manage associated conditions.

Common Symptoms

Asymptomatic until complications; CAD/stroke/PAD/aneurysm; by vascular bed

Causes and Pathogenesis

Lipid accumulation/inflammation in arterial intima forms plaques that narrow/rupture arteries.

Treatment

Primary/secondary prevention; antiplatelet/statin; revascularization for symptomatic disease

Preventive Measures

Healthy lifestyle; no smoking; control BP/lipids/DM; statin/antiplatelet when indicated.
