Ascending-aorta aneurysm is pathological dilatation of the ascending thoracic aorta, often associated with bicuspid aortic valve, Marfan syndrome, or hypertension. It may be asymptomatic or cause chest pain/aortic regurgitation/ dissection risk. Treatment: control BP; beta-blocker in Marfan; serial imaging; elective surgical repair when diameter reaches threshold (typically >5.5 cm, or lower in Marfan/fast growth); emergent surgery for dissection/rupture; root/valve-sparing repair when possible.
Asymptomatic or chest pain; aortic regurgitation; risk of dissection/rupture; associated with bicuspid valve/Marfan
Cystic medial degeneration/atherosclerosis/HTN causes progressive dilatation and dissection risk.
Control HTN; beta-blocker in Marfan; serial imaging; elective surgery at size threshold; emergent for dissection
Control BP; screen family/aortopathy; repair before rupture.
