Takayasu arteritis is a granulomatous vasculitis of the aorta and its major branches, causing stenosis/occlusion/aneurysm, most often in young Asian women. Clinical: systemic symptoms (fever/fatigue/weight loss) in early phase, then pulselessness/BP discrepancy/ischemic symptoms in late phase. Treatment: glucocorticoids; immunosuppressants (methotrexate/tocilizumab) for active disease; control BP; surgical/endovascular revascularization for significant stenosis (cerebral/limb/renal ischemia) after inflammation controlled; monitor aneurysms.
Pulselessness/BP discrepancy; arm/leg claudication; systemic symptoms; young Asian women
Granulomatous inflammation of the aortic wall causes stenosis/occlusion/aneurysm of aorta/branches.
Glucocorticoids/immunosuppressants; control BP; revascularization for significant stenosis after inflammation controlled
Early diagnosis; treat active inflammation; screen aneurysms.
It is recommended to visit the Rheumatology/Vascular-surgery department; an appointment can be booked on this platform before the visit.
