The pathology of disease

Allergic (hypersensitivity) vasculitis is small-vessel leukocytoclastic vasculitis (LCV) triggered by drugs, infection, food, or systemic disease. Clinical: palpable purpura (lower limbs), urticaria, arthralgia, abdominal pain, renal involvement. Treatment: identify/remove trigger (discontinue suspect drug, treat infection); mild: antihistamines, NSAIDs, rest; moderate: oral glucocorticoids; severe (renal/GI/systemic): high-dose steroids + immunosuppressants (azathioprine/cyclophosphamide/rituximab); supportive care; follow-up dermatology/rheumatology/nephrology.

Common Symptoms

Palpable purpura; urticaria; arthralgia; abdominal pain; fever

Causes and Pathogenesis

Immune-complex deposition in small vessels causes LCV.

Treatment

Remove trigger; antihistamines/NSAIDs; glucocorticoids; immunosuppressants if severe

Preventive Measures

Avoid suspect drugs; treat infection; monitor organs.
