In advanced renal insufficiency uremic pericarditis occurs in 40%-50%, mostly fibrinous with bloody pericardial effusion. It is divided into uremic and dialysis-related types, related to accumulation of toxic metabolites, cardiac insufficiency and hypoproteinemia; a few relate to infection or bleeding. Mild cases are asymptomatic; severe ones have muffled distant heart sounds and tamponade. Symptoms are often masked by uremia and comorbidities; ECG changes are atypical. Hemodialysis is effective and should be done early.
Heart failure; pericardial fibrous thickening; dyspnea; precordial dull pain; pericarditis; hypotension; pericardial effusion; tachycardia; acute hemolytic uremic syndrome; signs of pericardial effusion
It is a severe complication of chronic renal insufficiency, divided into uremic and post-dialysis pericarditis. Patients have platelet and coagulation dysfunction, uremic toxin accumulation, hypoproteinemia and volume overload.
Hemodialysis, supportive treatment
Control uremia, start dialysis early, and monitor for tamponade.
It is recommended to visit the cardiology department; before the visit you may first book an appointment and connect with experts through this platform.
