The pathology of disease

Cystitis is a common urinary tract infection, about 50%-70% of UTIs, caused by bacteria, mostly E. coli, usually in women because the female urethra is short and near the anus. Typical symptoms are frequency, urgency, dysuria and even urge incontinence, with hematuria and pyuria. Treatment: bed rest, fluids, avoid irritants, sitz baths; alkalinizing agents such as sodium bicarbonate or potassium citrate reduce acidity and relieve spasm; flavoxate relieves spasm and urinary irritation.

Common Symptoms

Intermittent proteinuria; reduced bladder capacity; bladder fibrosis; frequency; recurrent refractory infection; foamy urine; lumbar pain with frequency; weak stream; dysuria; urgency

Causes

Bacterial infection, mostly E. coli, ascending from the short female urethra near the anus.
