The pathology of disease

Post-myocardial infarction pericarditis includes early (within days) acute pericarditis and Dressler syndrome (weeks-months, autoimmune); pleuritic chest pain; pericardial rub; aspirin/colchicine.

Symptoms

Pleuritic chest pain; worse lying down; pericardial rub; fever; after MI; diffuse ST elevation; weeks later (Dressler)

Causes

Pericardial inflammation after MI; early: direct. Late (Dressler): autoimmune.

Treatment

Aspirin; colchicine; avoid high-dose NSAIDs/steroids (impair healing); monitor for tamponade
