Paracoccidioidomycosis (Brazilian/South American blastomycosis) is progressive fungal disease of mucocutaneous/lymph node/visceral sites by Paracoccidioides brasiliensis. Endemic Central/South America; men 20-50, coffee workers. Occurs in immunocompromised (including AIDS). Spores inhaled → yeast at 37°C → lymphohematogenous spread.
Lymphadenopathy; papule; dyspnea; ascites; fatigue; nausea
(1) Etiology: P. brasiliensis; dimorphic (yeast at 37°C, mycelial at room temp); multi-budding spores resemble Coccidioides endospores. (2) Pathogenesis: oral/mucosal/skin breaks; weakened resistance → local + lymphohematogenous visceral spread.
Drug therapy, supportive therapy
Azoles preferred; early diagnosis/treatment critical. Oral/nasal route; boost immunity; avoid endemic areas.
It is recommended to visit the Infectious Diseases department; an appointment can be booked on this platform before the visit.
