Ulcerative Enteritis

Ulcerative enteritis is inflammatory ulceration of small bowel, due to Crohn disease, infection (TB/Yersinia/Campylobacter), ischemia, NSAIDs, or radiation, presenting with diarrhea, abdominal pain, bleeding, and weight loss. Treatment: identify/treat cause (Crohn: 5-ASA/steroids/biologics; infection: antimicrobials; ischemia: revascularization; stop NSAIDs); nutritional support; endoscopy/imaging; treat complications (stricture/bleeding); follow-up to monitor healing/malignancy risk.

Causes and Pathogenesis

Infectious/inflammatory/ischemic causes small-bowel ulceration.
