Chronic Colitis

Chronic colitis is persistent inflammation of colon, due to ulcerative colitis/Crohn, microscopic colitis, ischemia, or infection, presenting with chronic diarrhea, bleeding, and abdominal pain. Treatment: identify/treat cause (UC: 5-ASA/steroids/biologics; microscopic: budesonide; ischemic: supportive); endoscopy with biopsies; surveillance colonoscopy for dysplasia/cancer (UC/Crohn); nutritional support; treat flares; follow-up to monitor healing/complications.
