Postcholecystectomy syndrome is persistent/recurrent RUQ pain/dyspepsia after cholecystectomy, due to retained/common-bile-duct stones, biliary stricture, sphincter of Oddi dysfunction, or nonbiliary causes (IBS/PUD/gastritis). Treatment: workup (LFTs/ultrasound/MRCP/ERCP); treat cause (ERCP stone extraction/stent for retained stone/stricture; antispasmodics for sphincter dysfunction; PPI for PUD; IBS diet); reassurance; follow-up to rule out malignancy; monitor symptoms.
Persistent RUQ pain; dyspepsia; post-cholecystectomy
Retained stone/stricture/sphincter dysfunction/nonbiliary disease causes symptoms.
Workup; treat cause; ERCP if structural; PPI/IBS management
Pre-op careful CBD evaluation; post-op follow-up.
It is recommended to visit the Gastroenterology/Hepatobiliary-surgery department; an appointment can be booked on this platform before the visit.
