Acute biliary pancreatitis is gallstone passage causing pancreatic duct obstruction; epigastric pain radiating to back; elevated amylase/LFTs; ERCP if cholangitis.

Symptoms

Epigastric pain radiating to back; nausea/vomiting; fever; gallstones history; elevated amylase/lipase; LFT/bilirubin elevated

Causes

Gallstone impaction at ampulla; biliary pancreatitis.

Treatment

NPO; IV fluids; analgesia; ERCP if cholangitis/persistent obstruction; cholecystectomy same admission

Dept

Gastroenterology / hepatobiliary surgery.
