Gastric Tumor

消化内科

Common symptoms

不明原因发热、中上腹痛、腹泻、胃痛、黑便、纳差、上腹部包块、大便色深、消瘦

The pathology of disease

Gastric tumors rarely present symptoms; discovered late (complications/malignant change). Pyloric benign tumors: obstruction/pedunculated adenoma prolapse into pylorus/duodenum; mostly self-resolving; rare congestion/edema/intussusception/necrosis/perforation/peritonitis. Ulcerated tumors: discomfort/pain/bleeding. Leiomyoma/neurofibroma may cause massive bleeding. TCM: important treatment modality; modern medicine + traditional TCM → penetrates tumor, shuts down circulation, phagocytoses tumor, improves microcirculation, softens/shrinks lesion. Individualized phased treatment for unresected/partial/recurrent post-chemo patients.

Common Symptoms

Fever of unknown origin; epigastric pain; diarrhea; stomach ache; melena; anorexia; upper-abdominal mass; dark stool; weight loss

Causes and Pathogenesis

Risk factors: high-salt/high-carb diet, nitrate preservatives, low fruit/vegetable intake (not fully proven). Gastric polyps = precancerous (types/>12mm/multiple more likely to malignant-transform). Precancerous gastric conditions: gastric ulcer (low malignant rate; many diagnosed as malignant ulcer were actually ulcerated cancers that temporarily healed).

Treatment

Surgery, TCM, drug, supportive therapy

Preventive Measures

(1) Stop smoking/limit alcohol; WHO: 1/3 cancer reduction in 5y. (2) Avoid salty/spicy/overhot/overcold/expired food; elderly/genetic: cancer-preventive/alkaline foods.

Department to Visit
