Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) is a progressive dementia due to frontal and/or temporal lobe degeneration, presenting in late middle age. Main variants: behavioral-variant FTD (disinhibition/apathy/hyperorality/compulsive behavior) and primary progressive aphasia (nonfluent or semantic). Memory/spatial function are relatively spared early. There is no disease-modifying therapy; treatment is supportive, with management of behavioral symptoms and caregiver support.
