Uremia

肾内科

Common symptoms

下肢水肿、嗜睡、食欲减退、不宁腿综合征、呼吸气为尿臭味、指甲-骨四联征、急性溶血性尿毒综合征、感觉障碍

The pathology of disease

Uremia is the poisoning when the body cannot make urine through the kidneys to excrete metabolic wastes and excess water. Modern medicine sees it as a complex syndrome of disturbed internal biochemistry after loss of renal function, not a single disease, called renal failure syndrome. The term was coined by PIORRY and HERITER in 1840 after describing renal failure.

Common Symptoms

Lower limb edema; somnolence; anorexia; restless legs syndrome; urine-smelling breath; nail-patella quadrad; acute hemolytic uremic syndrome; sensory disturbance

Causes

Kidney disease is the main cause; all chronic kidney diseases end in uremia. Chronic glomerulonephritis is the leading cause, accounting for 55.7%. The cause is loss of renal function so nitrogenous wastes cannot be excreted.

Treatment

Dialysis, renal transplantation, supportive treatment

Prevention

Detect and treat chronic kidney disease early to prevent progression to uremia.
