Secondary forms occur in chronic kidney disease (obstructive nephropathy, interstitial nephritis, chronic pyelonephritis, hypercalcemia, potassium-wasting nephropathy, renal TB, medullary cystic disease), multiple myeloma, renal amyloidosis and drug damage (demeclocycline, methoxyflurane, vincristine).
