Penicilliosis

Penicilliosis is rare Penicillium infection; secondary to primary immunodeficiency/AIDS/neutropenia/diabetes/long-term steroids/anticancer drugs/antibiotics/artificial valves; skin = gumma-like ulcers in groin/genitalia/buttocks; pathology = inflammation + septate branching hyphae/buds.

Common Symptoms

Keratitis; dyspnea; pericarditis; fungal infection; hemoptysis; fungemia; wasting

Causes and Pathogenesis

P. marneffei = primary dimorphic pathogen; others: P. citrinum/chrysogenum/expansum/delectigenum/lanosum.

Treatment

Etiologic, drug, supportive therapy

Preventive Measures

Exercise; nutrition; balanced diet (high-fiber/vegetables/fruit/protein/fat/vitamins/trace elements/fiber).
