Colonic Fistula

Colonic fistula is abnormal tract from colon to skin (colocutaneous) or other organ (colovesical/colovaginal), due to diverticulitis/Crohn/surgery/malignancy/radiation, presenting with passage of stool/gus through urinary/vaginal/skin. Treatment: drainage of associated abscess; antibiotics; nutritional support; skin protection; treat underlying cause (diverticulitis: antibiotics; Crohn: biologics); surgical resection/revision if refractory/persistent; monitor for sepsis/electrolyte losses; follow-up imaging.
