The pathology of disease

Abdominal trauma is blunt or penetrating injury to abdomen; solid organ (liver/spleen) vs hollow viscus; FAST; emergency laparotomy.

Symptoms

Abdominal pain; tenderness; distension; guarding/rigidity; hypotension; seat-belt sign; entry/exit wound

Causes

MVA; assault; fall; penetrating trauma.

Treatment

ATLS; FAST/CT; IV fluids/blood; exploratory laparotomy; nonoperative for stable solid organ

Dept

Trauma surgery / emergency.
