Acute arterial embolism is embolic occlusion of artery; cardiac source (AF); acute limb ischemia; 6 Ps (pain, pallor, pulselessness, paresthesia, paralysis, poikilothermia).

Symptoms

Sudden limb pain; pallor; pulselessness; paresthesia; paralysis; cold limb; atrial fibrillation

Causes

Cardiac embolus (AF, mural thrombus); valvular; aneurysm.

Treatment

Urgent embolectomy; heparin; thrombolysis; treat cardiac source; fasciotomy if needed
