Splenic cysts are divided into true cysts (epithelial/endothelial lining, congenital or parasitic such as echinococcal) and pseudocysts (no lining, usually post-traumatic/post-infarct, often post-traumatic). Most are asymptomatic; large cysts cause left-upper-quadrant discomfort, palpable mass, or risk of rupture.
Left-upper-quadrant discomfort; palpable mass; abdominal distension; rupture pain
True: congenital epithelial inclusion or parasitic (Echinococcus). Pseudocyst: post-traumatic hematoma organization or post-infarct liquefaction.
Observation for small asymptomatic; partial splenectomy/drainage/splenectomy for large/symptomatic; antiparasitic for echinococcal
Trauma care; control echinococcal exposure.
It is recommended to visit the General Surgery department; an appointment can be booked on this platform before the visit.
