Ureteritis

泌尿外科

Common symptoms

巨输尿管症、尿频、泌尿系感染、血尿、肾区叩击痛、腰酸、输尿管囊肿、输尿管间脊肥大、尿痛、尿急

The pathology of disease

Ureteritis is inflammation of one or both ureters, an inflammatory lesion of the ureteral wall caused by E. coli, Proteus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and staphylococci. It usually follows infection elsewhere in the urinary tract or endogenous/exogenous injury; spread of renal or bladder infection is commonest. Another cause is slow urine flow from partial ureteral denervation; the underlying kidney/bladder infection must be treated and the denervated segment resected.

Common Symptoms

Megaureter; frequency; urinary tract infection; hematuria; renal percussion tenderness; lumbar soreness; ureterocele; hypertrophied interureteric ridge; dysuria; urgency

Causes

Ureteritis often follows pyelonephritis and cystitis, or spreads hematogenously/lymphatically or from adjacent infection (appendicitis, ileitis, peritonitis).

Treatment

Antibiotics, treat source, surgery if needed

Prevention

Treat urinary tract infection promptly to prevent spread.
