Hemorrhagic cystitis

泌尿外科

Common symptoms

血尿、骶骨发育不良

The pathology of disease

Hemorrhagic cystitis is acute or chronic bladder injury from certain drugs or chemicals in urine, causing diffuse inflammatory bleeding. It is a multifactorial complication common during cancer treatment, mostly from anticancer drug toxicity or allergy, or radiation injury from high-dose pelvic irradiation; also seen with some viral infections such as adenovirus and influenza.

Common Symptoms

Hematuria; sacral hypoplasia

Causes

Many substances cause bladder bleeding: alkylating agents, busulfan, thiotepa, aniline, toluidine derivatives, insecticides, and some viruses such as adenovirus and influenza. The bladder is the last organ storing/excreting these drugs in concentrated urine, chronically irritating the mucosa.

Treatment

Stop the offending agent, bladder irrigation, supportive care

Prevention

Hydration during cytotoxic therapy and monitor for hematuria.
