Female urethral syndrome is a group of nonspecific symptoms (frequency, urgency, dysuria) without obvious organic bladder/urethral lesion, common in married young/middle-aged women. Causes include abnormal external meatus anatomy (labial fusion, urethro-hymenal fusion, hymenal umbrella), distal urethral obstruction, urinary infection and local chemical/mechanical irritation. Pathology shows chronic inflammation; urine culture may be positive: 46% E. coli, 18% chlamydia; anaerobic culture adds positives; 32% have no clear cause.
