Urethral stricture is abnormal narrowing of any urethral segment increasing urethral resistance and causing voiding difficulty, mainly in men. By cause it is congenital, inflammatory or traumatic. Hyperplastic fibrous tissue replaces the normal corpus spongiosum, forming scarring that contracts the urethra and surrounding tissue.

Traumatic stricture is a late complication of urethral injury and the commonest: bulbar 50%, posterior 40%, pendulous 10%.
