Prostatic cysts are congenital or acquired. Congenital has two types: cysts on the prostatic utricle (utricle cyst) and congenital cysts of the prostate itself; the former is commoner. Symptoms vary with size: mild cases asymptomatic; severe ones have urgency, frequency, straining, thin stream, residual urine and retention; hematuria is rare; infection causes pyuria.
Frequency; pyuria; hematuria; male lower abdominal pain; cyst; urgency
Congenital cysts arise from remnants of the mesonephric or paramesonephric ducts, walls of fibromuscular tissue; acquired retention cysts follow incomplete acinar obstruction.
