Ureteral Tuberculosis

泌尿外科

Common symptoms

输尿管狭窄、血尿、肾区叩击痛、输尿管梗阻、乏力、低热、腰痛伴尿频、尿...

The pathology of disease

Ureteral TB results from downward spread of bacilli from renal TB. It first invades the mucosa, then submucosa and muscularis, forming ulcers whose fibrous bases narrow or completely obliterate the lumen. It most often affects the vesicoureteral junction, then the ureteropelvic junction; other segments may be involved segmentally.

Common Symptoms

Ureteral stricture; hematuria; renal angle tenderness; ureteral obstruction; fatigue; low fever; back pain with frequency; urine...

Causes and Pathogenesis

Ureteral TB is secondary to renal TB. Bacilli first invade mucosa, then deep submucosa and muscularis, finally causing fibrosis that narrows, hardens, thickens, stiffens, or completely obstructs the ureter. Urinary TB starts in the renal medulla and papillae, progressively destroying tissue and forming cavities that communicate with the renal pelvis; bacilli and tuberculous material drain with urine into the bladder, descending to the ureter.

Treatment

Surgical treatment, supportive therapy

Preventive Measures

1. The fundamental measure is preventing pulmonary TB; the US CDC (1989) proposed a 20-year elimination strategy using new prevention, diagnosis, and treatment methods. 2. Ventilate rooms; practice good hygiene such as separate meals, personal toiletries, frequent handwashing, clothing changes, and periodic disinfection.

Department to Visit

It is recommended to visit the Urology department; an appointment can be booked on this platform before the visit.
