Frontal lobe epilepsy is focal epilepsy originating in the frontal lobe, characterized by brief, frequent, often nocturnal seizures with motor manifestations (tonic/posturing, versional head/eye deviation, hypermotor complex movements), and abrupt onset/offset. It may be idiopathic (autosomal dominant nocturnal frontal-lobe epilepsy) or symptomatic (lesional). Treatment: antiepileptic drugs; surgical resection if a focal lesional cause is identified and medically refractory.
Brief frequent nocturnal motor seizures; tonic posturing; versional head/eye deviation; hypermotor movements; abrupt onset/offset
Focal cortical hyperexcitability in frontal lobe causes stereotyped motor seizures.
Antiepileptic drugs; surgical resection if focal lesional and refractory; VNS in selected cases
Antiepileptic adherence; sleep hygiene; seizure safety.
It is recommended to visit the Neurology department; an appointment can be booked on this platform before the visit.
