Petroclival Meningioma

Petroclival region = the area bounded by sphenoid/temporal/occipital bones (middle/posterior cranial fossae); petroclival meningioma arises here.

Common Symptoms

Ataxia; hydrocephalus; raised ICP

Causes and Pathogenesis

Meningiomas from arachnoid cap cells/fibroblasts/vessels (mostly arachnoid granulations). Slow growth; round/lobulated/irregular, firm, well-demarcated, adjacent brain compressed. Base on clivus/petrous apex/petrous ridge; local bone destruction. Histologic types: meningothelial, fibroblastic, transitional, vascular (vascular/hemangioblastic/hemangiopericytic), malignant.

Treatment

Surgery, drug, radiotherapy

Preventive Measures

Avoid irritant foods.
