Frontal-Lobe Tumor

神经外科

Common symptoms

表情淡漠、痴呆、口吃、共济失调、记忆力障碍、定向力障碍、腱反射亢进

The pathology of disease

Frontal-lobe tumors are common intracranial tumors, ranking first among supratentorial sites, accounting for about 1/5 of all intracranial tumors. Gliomas are most common (~25.57% of intracranial gliomas), then meningiomas (~11.45%); congenital tumors and metastases also occur here. Mostly in adults with no clear gender difference. Although common, understanding of frontal-lobe anatomy and neurophysiology remains incomplete. Over the last 20+ years, advances in neurosurgery, neurophysiology and neuropsychiatry have improved understanding of frontal-lobe functions and lesions, but deep comprehensive knowledge is still lacking; especially the right frontal lobe is often considered a 'silent' or 'dumb' area. Such patients often have no obvious early symptoms/signs and few significant functional deficits, making early diagnosis difficult and affecting treatment/outcome.

Common Symptoms

Apathy; dementia; stuttering; ataxia; memory impairment; disorientation; hyperreflexia

Causes and Pathogenesis

Like tumors elsewhere in the body, the cause is not fully clear. Extensive research shows oncogenes on cell chromosomes plus various acquired triggers may cause it. Possible factors: heredity, physical/chemical factors and biologic factors.

Treatment

TCM, surgery, radiotherapy

Preventive Measures

Primary prevention promotes health and reduces risk factors — this first line of defense promotes healthy lifestyles in the general population and reduces exposure to environmental hazards to completely avoid cancer. Beyond preventing carcinogens in air, water, food and workplace, changing lifestyle habits such as smoking, drinking and other bad habits is part of primary prevention.

Department to Visit

It is recommended to visit the Neurosurgery department; an appointment can be booked on this platform before the visit.
