Parietal-lobe tumors are less common than frontal/temporal; mostly gliomas (~8.52% of intracranial gliomas), then meningiomas (~6.50%), then metastases. They favor adults. Parietal-lobe function is very complex: it mainly analyzes and integrates various sensory information to identify and localize stimulus nature and site. Thus parietal-lobe tumor damage mainly presents as contralateral hemisensory disturbance; most patients show definite symptoms/signs, especially focal sensory seizures which have stronger localizing value. Decades of study on parietal-lobe agnosia, hemiplegic sensory loss, disorientation and Gerstmann syndrome have improved understanding. Symptoms/signs allow fairly accurate localization. But a few cases — especially slow-growing meningiomas — may be asymptomatic even when involving most of the parietal lobe.

Like tumors elsewhere, cause is unclear. Research shows oncogenes on chromosomes plus acquired triggers may cause it. Possible factors: heredity, physical/chemical and biologic factors.

Daily prevention: Primary prevention promotes health and reduces risk factors — this first line of defense promotes healthy lifestyles and reduces environmental hazards to completely avoid cancer. Beyond preventing carcinogens in air/water/food/workplace, changing lifestyle habits such as smoking, drinking and other bad habits is part of primary prevention.
It is recommended to visit the Neurosurgery department; an appointment can be booked on this platform before the visit.
