Acute myocardial infarction is myocardial necrosis from prolonged coronary ischemia, classified as STEMI (ST-elevation) or NSTEMI. Clinical: prolonged crushing chest pain radiating to arm/jaw, diaphoresis, dyspnea, ECG changes, and troponin rise. It is an emergency. Treatment: MONA (morphine/oxygen/nitrates/aspirin); urgent reperfusion - primary PCI within 90 min, or fibrinolysis if PCI unavailable; dual antiplatelet therapy, statin, beta-blocker, ACEi; manage complications (heart failure/arrhythmia/cardiogenic shock).
Prolonged crushing chest pain; radiation to arm/jaw; diaphoresis/dyspnea; ST changes/troponin rise; by STEMI/NSTEMI
Ruptured/erosured atherosclerotic plaque with coronary thrombosis causes myocardial necrosis.
MONA; urgent primary PCI/fibrinolysis; DAPT/statin/BB/ACEi; manage complications
Risk-factor control; antiplatelet/statin; cardiac rehab; early recognition of chest pain.
It is recommended to visit the Cardiology/Emergency department; an appointment can be booked on this platform before the visit.
