Mediastinal Hernia

Mediastinal hernia is herniation of lung tissue across the mediastinal septum, usually due to overinflation (emphysema) or post-surgical/traumatic defect, often asymptomatic. Treatment: observe if asymptomatic; treat underlying lung disease (COPD/emphysema); surgical repair if symptomatic/obstruction/rare incarceration; monitor; differentiate from mediastinal mass.

Causes and Pathogenesis

Overinflation/defect causes lung tissue to herniate across mediastinum.

Treatment
