Hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) is rare complex CHD; 1-27/100,000; 16/100,000 live births; 1.4% CHD. Underdeveloped ascending aorta/aortic valve/LV/mitral valve; requires PDA to survive. Asians lower incidence.

Common Symptoms

Cyanosis; shock after PDA closure; tachypnea

Causes

Embryologic left heart development abnormality.

Treatment

Staged Norwood palliation; transplant
