Myofascitis

骨外科

Common symptoms

腰膝酸软、肌肉疼痛

The pathology of disease

Myofascitis, also known as fibrositis, 'lumbar back muscle injury,' 'lumbodorsal fibrositis,' and 'lumbodorsal fascial pain syndrome,' refers to an aseptic inflammatory reaction of muscle and fascia. When the body is stimulated by adverse external factors such as wind-cold invasion, fatigue, trauma, or improper sleeping posture, it can trigger an acute attack of myofascitis; the acute or chronic injury and strain of the muscles, ligaments, and joint capsules of the shoulder, neck, and lower back are the basic causes of this disease. Because it was not thoroughly treated during the acute phase, it progressed to a chronic stage; or because the patient is repeatedly subjected to adverse stimuli such as strain and wind-cold, chronic muscle pain, soreness, weakness and other symptoms can recur persistently or intermittently.

Common Symptoms

Soreness and weakness of the lower back and knees; muscle pain

Causes

Chronic strain is one of the most common causes. After muscle and fascia are injured, fibrotic changes occur, leaving the soft tissue in a state of high tension, which leads to minor tearing injuries; eventually fibro-like tissue increases and contracts, compressing the local capillaries and peripheral nerves and causing pain. A humid and cold climate is another important causative factor: damp cold can cause muscle blood vessels to constrict, and ischemia and edema cause local fibrous serous exudation, eventually forming fibrositis. Chronic infections, depression, sleep disorders, hypothyroidism, and hyperuricemia also frequently complicate myofascitis. The common triggering factors are as follows: 1. Some patients have a history of trauma of varying degrees. After muscle and fascia are injured, if not treated in time or treated thoroughly, hidden dangers are left behind, and the condition develops over time. 2. Many patients have no obvious history of acute trauma, but develop the condition over time due to prolonged sedentary work with little activity, poor work posture maintaining a single fixed posture for a long time, or intense work with continuous load-bearing and overexertion. 3. Exposure to wind, cold and dampness blocks the meridians and impedes the flow of qi and blood, affecting the nutrition and metabolism of the muscles and fascia, and the condition develops over time. 4. The patient is weak with weak immune function, or has congenital lumbosacral vertebral variation (deformity), or is induced by degenerative spinal disease (osteoproliferation).

Treatment

Medication, rehabilitation therapy

Prevention

1. Prevent dampness and cold exposure. Do not sleep casually in damp places. Add clothes according to climate changes; after sweating or getting caught in rain, promptly change wet clothes or dry the body. When it is cold, an electric blanket or a heated kang can be used. 2. Acute lumbar sprain should be actively treated with rest to prevent it from becoming chronic. 3. Warm up properly before sports or strenuous activity.
