Bone cyst

骨外科

Common symptoms

儿童反复骨折、肌腱囊肿、骨囊肿、颈背疼痛

The pathology of disease

A bone cyst is a benign bone lesion, also called solitary bone cyst or simple bone cyst; its wall is a fibrous capsule containing yellow or brown fluid. It favors the metaphysis and diaphyseal medullary cavity of long bones, rarely the vertebral body; treatment is mainly surgical with good prognosis. It favors ages 4-20, mostly children 5-15, and favors the femoral neck, proximal femur and proximal humerus; with age the cyst gradually moves toward the diaphysis.

Common Symptoms

Recurrent fractures in children; tendon cyst; bone cyst; neck and back pain

Causes

Bone cyst is benign and its cause is unclear; some think it results from obstruction of intraosseous capillary endings with blood stasis. Others think it is a degenerative change of some tumor or inflammatory tissue, a result of impaired growth and metabolism, or related to abnormal bone development. Others think it may form from traumatic hemorrhage creating a localized capsule that is then locally absorbed and ossified.

Treatment

Supportive treatment, rehabilitation therapy, surgery, medication

Prevention

The cause is unclear and there are no effective preventive measures, so early detection, diagnosis and treatment are the key.
