Pubic Tuberculosis

骨外科

Common symptoms

耻骨上痛、骨质破坏、盗汗、低热、消瘦、孕妇耻骨痛

The pathology of disease

The pubis is the anterior-inferior part of the hip bone, with a body and superior/inferior rami. The pubic body forms the anterior-inferior acetabulum; the superior ramus extends anteromedially then curves down as the inferior ramus. Pubic TB is rare: in one series only 18 of 4140 cases (0.43%). The body near the symphysis gives off rami; the inferior ramus joins the ischial ramus; the two pubes meet at the symphysis. The anterior surface faces the perineum and the posterior faces the pelvis.

Common Symptoms

Suprapubic pain; bony destruction; night sweats; low fever; weight loss; pubic pain in pregnancy

Causes and Pathogenesis

Pubic TB is a form of systemic osteoarticular TB, possibly related to pubic symphysis injury during childbirth; Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection is the direct cause.

Treatment

Traditional Chinese medicine, supportive therapy

Preventive Measures

This is systemic osteoarticular TB caused by tubercle bacilli; health education on blocking sources and transmission is key. Exercise to build resistance.
