Pregnancy with diabetes includes pre-existing diabetic pregnancy (diabetes complicating pregnancy) and gestational diabetes. Gestational diabetes (GDM) is hyperglycemia of varying degrees caused by impaired glucose tolerance and diabetes during pregnancy. By definition it includes diabetes pre-existing but diagnosed in pregnancy, and that arising during pregnancy; it covers both diabetes and impaired glucose tolerance.
