Pregnancy with cirrhosis

Cirrhosis is a diffuse, progressive liver injury from various causes: widespread hepatocyte degeneration/necrosis, destroyed reticulin, nodular regeneration, extensive connective tissue forming fibrous septa and pseudo-lobules, liver shrinks and hardens. Clinically marked by liver dysfunction and portal hypertension; early signs subtle; late has GI bleeding, hepatic encephalopathy, secondary infection threatening mother/fetus.

Ascites, jaundice

Pre-existing cirrhosis complicating pregnancy.

Treatment

Manage portal hypertension, deliver
