Acute fatty liver of pregnancy, also obstetric acute pseudo-yellow atrophy, is a rare fatal disease specific to late pregnancy. It starts abruptly and changes rapidly, clinically resembling fulminant hepatitis. Earlier literature reported maternal and fetal mortality of 75% and 85%; but early diagnosis, early treatment and timely pregnancy termination can lower maternal mortality and infant mortality to 58.3%.
