Cystic hyperplasia of breast

Cystic hyperplasia of the breast is characterized by cysts from marked dilation of lobules, small and terminal ducts, with mammary dysplasia; also called chronic cystic mastopathy, cystic desquamative hyperplasia or fibrocystic disease. Unlike simple hyperplasia, atypical hyperplasia coexists, carrying malignant risk; it should be regarded as a precancerous lesion.

Common Symptoms

Painless solitary breast mass; back pain; stabbing breast pain; nipple discharge; nodule; cyst; thickening of upper outer quadrant; reduced lactation; cystic hyperplasia

Causes

Related to endocrine imbalance, especially estrogen excess relative to progesterone.

Treatment

Follow-up, medication, biopsy to exclude cancer

Prevention

Regular breast screening, regulate endocrine.
