Breast adenosis is the early stage of mammary dysplasia, with focal proliferation of acini and small ducts plus varying connective-tissue proliferation; lobular architecture is lost. Foote, Urban and Dawson call it sclerosing adenosis; Bonser calls it lobular sclerosis. Three stages: lobular hyperplasia, fibrosclerosis adenosis and sclerosing adenosis; the latter two carry cancer risk.
