Breast mass

A breast mass is a lump from abnormal breast tissue composition. It is the commonest breast disorder; many benign diseases present as a mass, so the key is distinguishing benign from malignant. Besides breast cancer (malignant), fibroadenoma, hyperplasia, galactocele and fat necrosis are benign. Inflammatory masses are painful with redness, heat and swelling, may suppurate, and resolve after anti-inflammatory treatment and drainage.

Palpable lump, cyclical pain

Causes

Benign: hyperplasia, fibroadenoma, cyst; malignant: breast cancer.

Treatment

Diagnose by exam/ultrasound/biopsy, treat cause

Prevention
