Oophoritis

Oophoritis is a type of pelvic inflammatory disease. Infection inflames the ovary, causing severe sequelae such as ovarian adhesions, tubal encapsulation, abscess and obstruction, leading to infertility. Nonspecific oophoritis is acute or chronic. Acute presents with fever, abdominal pain and anal heaviness; chronic presents with weakness, malaise, menstrual disturbance and lower abdominal mass. It usually accompanies pelvic inflammation.

Causes

Poor menstrual and personal hygiene, intercourse during menstruation, causing infection of the ovary.

Treatment

Antibiotics, supportive care
