Chronic endometritis

Clinically, besides tuberculous and senile endometritis, other forms are rare; even with extensive chronic adnexitis the endometrium may be normal, because good drainage and cyclic endometrial shedding rarely let inflammation persist, so lesions usually subside. But incomplete acute treatment or persistent infection causes recurrence. Symptoms are nonspecific, but combining infection history with increased discharge/menstrual volume, dull pelvic pain and dysmenorrhea is valuable; curettage identifies the cause and excludes malignancy.

Dull pain; station doctor; lower abdominal heaviness; primary dysmenorrhea; uterine bleeding; pain

Causes

The basal endometrium, though the functional layer sheds cyclically, does not; chronic basal infection long infects the functional layer, causing chronic endometritis.

Treatment

Antibiotics, remove IUD/foreign body

Prevention

Treat acute infection thoroughly.
