Tubal adhesion

Tubal adhesion is one of the tubal diseases. Chronic infection adheres the fimbria, trapping tubal fluid and inflammatory exudate in the ampulla. If adhesion blocks the narrow isthmus, trapped fluid cannot drain and forms a cystic collection. Obstruction blocks sperm passage, preventing fertilization and causing female infertility. Most common when appendicitis or peritonitis spreads directly to the adjacent internal genitalia, causing pelvic inflammation; chronic cervicitis may spread via lymphatics.

Causes

Chronic pelvic infection causing fimbrial adhesion and obstruction.

Treatment

Antibiotics, laparoscopic adhesiolysis

Prevention

Treat pelvic infection promptly.
