Endometriosis

Endometriosis means lesions and symptoms from endometrium growing outside the uterine cavity. Normally the endometrium lines the uterine cavity; if for some reason it grows elsewhere, endometriosis results. Ectopic endometrium histologically has both glands and stroma; it changes markedly with estrogen and the menstrual cycle, partly responding to progesterone and producing small periods causing clinical phenomena. If pregnancy occurs, ectopic endometrium may decidualize. Though it grows in other tissues/organs, it differs from malignant infiltration.

Hormonal medication, surgery
