Endometrial hyperplasia

Endometrial hyperplasia has some malignant tendency and is classified as a precancerous lesion. But long observation shows most is reversible or stays benign, and only a few progress to cancer after long intervals. Types: simple, complex and atypical hyperplasia; atypical is the focus here.

Common Symptoms

Atypical hyperplasia; decidual reaction; menstrual cycle change; postmenopausal thickened endometrium; oligomenorrhea; irregular vaginal bleeding; hyperplastic endometrial lesion

Causes

Excess estrogen without progesterone antagonism drives endometrial overgrowth.

Treatment

Progestogens, curettage, hysterectomy for atypical

Prevention

Regulate estrogen exposure.
